I want to talk about sh*t you might not want me to talk about…
But it’s important to me to not just write about health upon health all the time.
Real “Into The Gloss”-style full vanity moment for a second here (which, since my family likes to stay private, thus I can’t constant Mompost… everything here looks kinda like a vanity project anyways?)
I am always rabbit hole-ing on 3 AM granny skincare research) on helping my skin with gentle, drugstore, old-school (time tested) products, and …
I legit see a difference lately?
I’ve never had a facial in my life. I can’t get fillers and the like. So, if you like TRUE granny staples and insight on how some might of it be panning out: I have experimentation to report.
I’m sharing about things that aren’t trends or whims or ads. I don’t do ads here. So these will have been mentioned before because I’ll have truly been using and trying them for some time.
First: Ponds.
I had run out of Ponds Cold Cream awhile back and thus stopped using it. I kept using other creams but, as it turns out: Once adding Ponds back in to my routine, I saw a difference and wanted to tell someone so badly (you’re that someone!)
I can use it to remove makeup or “wash my face” (wiping off with a micellar pad), but I personally just use it as a “closer” to each skincare routine.
I know it’s thinner than other things and thus should not go on last, but I’ve tried different orders- and this still somehow works best.
Ponds is my closing cream (before sunscreen or before any kind of bronzer).
So on the many days that I don’t wear the latter, I just finish it all with Ponds. (You WILL stop looking shiny- just give time to settle.)
I also use Zinc both morning and night to Zinc Baste (like sunscreen basting but irritates my eyes less) which I started doing a couple of months ago and genuinely have gotten more compliments since sticking with all these things (no idea which were chickens and which were the eggs).
I basically just mix a bit of Ponds and a pea size amount of diaper cream together and put it all over my face. (I look pretty Snow White for a while but it has sunketh in by the morning. And if I care enough to actually massage it in, it can be various levels of Mime versus less so.)
Another thing I swear by is honey in any and all forms.
One of my favorite creams (that isn’t in stores any more sadly) was the L’Oréal Manuka Honey which is know is not everyone’s cuppa. If I could, I’d definitely use products from that line from Amazon big time.
I have more to say on honey (including how I hate when people call each other “honey” unless they have the type of report or age range where it doesn’t come off as placating? Some people pull it off and it makes my heart warm, and some don’t. Discuss?) BUT…
Please take a moment of silence for this Danessa Myricks brush before I resume talking about products and delicious distraction some other day. [Next Monday!]
I have been delirious for her (the brush) for a solid year now. I’ve posted about it before. I’ve embedded clips of the brush in videos here. I show strangers on the streets videos of Danessa using it. (Exaggeration but just barely)
And then… my fairy Godmother and friend of at least a dozen years sent it to me as a surprise.
I’m not exaggerating when I say that my partner and I can’t give gifts to each other around the holidays or for anniversaries (we’ve always put all towards children, and this year we had to shake on that deal more than ever).
We felt lucky to be alive and not in the hospital this holiday. (We were back in by new years but ignore that detail.)
And so, the couple special treats from my couple cherished friends are truly the only things I open each year.
(And even then, normally Follin opens it because she’s a wrapping-paper-gremlin. She would open empty boxes all day and be happy just to open. She’s super selfless in terms of wanting things. She just wants to open things.)
So I am not exaggerating when I say:
“A moment of silence for the brush being used for the first time?”
It truly is so so so unique. Just wait and watch.
(We can resume this later.)
Posting the rest of this very lengthy beauty piece on Monday!
Hope its exorbitant detail is a fun little dalliance?
Thank you for this week together. I’m so grateful for you.
Kindly consider booming a supportive Word Nerd if you’re able (every little bit counts and helps keep this ongoing memoir going, or…
Share with you someone you like?
40 years of being “Honey’d and Sugar’d” at diners and truck stops lets me smile at your honey comment. Still glad you’re still here.
I also love Pond’s. Thank you for sharing.
