Shutting up now…
But one last thank you for the road: THANK YOU!
I am a firm believer in two things recently:
If someone shares the same type of beauty routine over and over again… then Im not bored or ready to swipe: Instead, I truly trust their preferences.
And, I’m a firm believer in not overvaluing how many “firm” faces we see online right now.
Though I won’t deny another human anything that makes their bell ring, we forget that our expression is our infection in some cultures (like Deaf culture) and the more homogeneous we make ourselves to the next generation…
The more we accidentally erase our past and any progress and sacrifice made by others to push the needle forward… while also, sort of, erasing our present and future too.
Homogeny doesn’t serve the greater story, even if ballet would have us believe that.
It makes it hard for audiences to connect to identically looking bun-heads. It makes it impossible for future dancers to see their path forward. And it makes the story and its characters all begin to look the same.
“Which one is the dying swan? Is it the lanky brunette or the lanky dirty blonde brunette?”
The same, honestly, goes for anything we share here.
This is a stage too, in oh so many ways… and even if it’s not our true selves or what our life looks like all the time or even how we normally get ready (for example): Seeing faces that evolve and emote benefits the greater story.
It doesn’t mean we all have to be part of that… but it’s worth considering more often.
Plus, if you see the same type of makeup routine over and over again, for example- you know that the human getting ready for the main stage “show” isn’t actually fully putting on a show.
This is my new makeup routine.
It took awhile to hone, and this is my most complicated version of it- but when I do the whole “dance” in the morning, this is what I do.
I hope you get sick of it.
But I hope we don’t get sick of faces as readily as we all might have been lately.
Thank you for this week together. I’m so grateful for you.
Kindly consider booming a supportive Word Nerd if you’re able (every little bit counts and helps keep this ongoing memoir going, or… Share with you someone you like?
