I can’t write about beauty poetically…
So I’m just going to write about it.
These are some of the things I do the most, if I had to give you a list (I know you didn’t ask).
It includes simple things like adding shimmer powder to my suncreen, and mostly using moisturizer that has SPF already in it so I can skip a step. (I know that isn’t trend-fluence-perfect advice, but the best ‘screen is the one you actually trick yourself into using?) I love the Loreal Rose Tone Cream with SPF so much. I get it on Amazon when I can, if I see any sort of sale or drop. As someone who used to hate blush or anything that makes my face pink for the longest time… This is not severe. One time, I had a $5 Sephora powder highlighter that fell and smashed in the container. I was so bummed because I’m an “every last drop” type of person, so on a whim- I sprinkled the highlighter powder in thinking it’d be a Renn Fair giggle. (I know we aren’t supposed to add anything to our sunscreen or it could make it less effective, but I also figure it’s better to want to wear and use every last drop then constantly skip?)
Danessa Myricks is a woman and brand I believe in and believe in supporting, and her Blur Balm is the best bronzer in a shade that’s slightly darker than what would be my base shade, to be honest. I am not exaggerating when I say her products will last you “forever”. I love brands that don’t take advantage of our time and money. And even though I think it’s a lot of bang for buck overall, a drugstore dupe (not the same) to get someone started in the short term could be the Maybelline Blur Primer stick in the darkest shade as a bronzer, or the L’oreal 4-in-1 balm for an actual skin-like base, overall.
Maybelline concealer never fails. We all know it. It’s cliche. I’m saying it anyways because I can’t make prose out of sh*t we rub on our nose.
Normally, I’ll use a shade way too light for me and I apply just to the apples of my cheeks (basically, wherever I naturally flush if I got all hot and flashy, which is most of the time lately because I think I’m in the peri part of menopause). There is something about making that spot - not the popular areas like under our eyes- naturally a little lighter that does a “lit from within” thing and would honestly work without bronzer, blush or anything else really. (When in doubt, it’s just the glowy “sunscreen” with the powder highlighter and then the concealer ON the cheeks right at the center area only.)
Revlon Blurring Powder is perfect, AND reminds me of Gemma (Tiny Dancer), whose name I’ll never stop shouting into the void…. Even in silly beauty pieces like this. I apply it only to the upper outer part of my cheeks (which I call the Paris Hilton blur spot) and sometimes my chin because I get shiny there, but leave most things looking a little slimy like a snail when I can.
I used to do tip of my nose and under eyes and now I only do that outer upper cheek and a little pat on chin because the more I use, the more that gets crinkly and looks more “makeup’y”.
I can’t write about beauty poetically…
But I can always find a way to keep saying Gemma’s name…
And that’s a poem. (So, I did.)
