It's Time For The Big Weird Surprise I've Been Taunting!
I wrote this headline with an exclamation point
Okay, my half-baked surgical recovery writing week is now done, and it’s time to announce the “Big Surprise” (yes, I’m overly dramatic).
Please see the video below to see “what” the heck my evil plan is, and why.
Well, the why is pretty simple. It’s to say THANK YOU to anyone kind enough to be a Word Nerd here for awhile or newly- because it truly is what keeps this work going and keeps me crazy-enough to try to never “miss a weekday”, even going in and out of the hospital.
Thank you for that purpose.
But more so?
I guess it’s also to mix things up around here, and keep you “rewarded” for reading (I don’t want to lull you into predictable sleep).
Finally, this also gives me a chance to recover safely- without pushing myself to type too too too much too too too soon, like I’d normally be inclined to do.
So, for your patience, from me (a patient) to you:
THANK YOU.
Now…. here we go.
This is a very long video because I wanted a proper hello…. It’s been awhile!
Senseless focuses on an Occupational Therapist who becomes trapped in a school with multi-disability students and surrounding staff during a global pandemic, while also serving as a metaphor for our innate fear of disability (with some rather dying than becoming). Our protagonist, Rose, knows the suspected virus spreads through touch and renders citizens critically disabled or dead within minutes, but must survive despite being hunted by those that remain.
Does she risk her own life to save lives many deem unworth living? How can she and her students navigate a world through touch, when they cannot touch at all? In a culture fueled with ignorance and ignited by fear, this is a topical, timely commentary on the indifference to difference, and the fight to stay alive even when no one fights for you.
Written during the first couple of weeks of the Covid pandemic in which many thoughts were unknown, this book explores counter culture, ableism, and societal stigma through the lens of an intensive thriller.
Part Bird Box, part A Quiet Place, part current reality: this survivalist love story speaks to everyone, but provides a targeted voice for those that wish to be heard.
Next week, you’ll enter into a completely new world and stay there for two weeks.
Then, we will return to regular programming BUT….
If you end up liking the novel I’m taking the risk of sharing here, openly (eek! scary! plagiarism! cows for free!)… Then I will know that this is an adventure series you like sometimes taking around surgical times, and can even consider self publishing it in its entirety down the road.
Ready?
Meet you Monday in a novel very cautiously called: “Senseless”
(Approach with caution)
PS. This book is R rated in terms of language and content (I wrote it for an adult), so if you are not an adult, or adverse to R-rated movie content, hopefully you won’t mind the next two weeks of adventure, and I’ll try to eventually share a more PG or PG-13 novel of mine soon!
THANK YOU!
