“No hobby is worth it.”
A (well meaning) human wrote this on a piece of my writing recently in which I showed a series of surgical scars and stalemates, juxtaposed with windows of getting back to work.
I was new to them and I (can only assume) they were new to me, so who’s to say what impression was made or how our digital paths crossed, but I of course took a second to reply and kindly explained that dance had not led to staples and scars single handedly… my disease had.
That being said, it made me wonder why that was the first thought they thought to say, and not the one I also included:
“Dance can be a career”.
Did this potential new friend do anything wrong by saying these words? No. (Also, they aren’t a friend in any way shape or form, I’m just trying to be classy. Can you feel it? Too much?)
Does anyone who thinks dance is a hobby ever consider that an art form can be a real life, profound profession? Apparently, not everyone, no.
